Overview

The Sustainable Energy in a Changing World Forum offers an extensive list of issues that will come as a great information package for anyone remotely connected to the energy sector.

�Sustainable energy� and �Clean energy policies� are some of the most important issues at the moment, and their importance only grows as time passes and as our traditional resources become more and more depleted.

This years International Energy Forum wants to bring new ways of thinking about energy and all the related issues.

The focal point for these operations is the Sustainable Energy Initiative (SEI), launched in May 2006 to address the twin challenges of energy efficiency and climate change in the region � which is one of the most energy intensive in the world."

"There is no �Silver Bullet� with respect to sustainable energy; we need ALL renewables � some e.g. wind are better suited to large scale electricity generation, others e.g. solar hot water are better suited to integration into buildings. Some are technically mature e.g. silicon based photovoltaics, others e.g. ocean energy are in earlier phases; the investment needs to vary significantly with maturity level.
Policy tends to be driven by the needs to meet 2020 national targets, and 2050 aspirations. For 2020 Renewables are the only sustainable energy source capable of delivering; carbon capture and storage is unlikely to contribute significantly before then and nuclear fusion unlikely much before 2050."
